When the bell rings…
The Van Zyl Cup tennis tournament took place on Saturday 24 October. Twenty six tennis players, ages between fourteen and sixty seven, came from all over Zululand to participate in this event.
The Van Zyl family was part of the founding members of the Richards bay tennis club. Since 1988 the Van Zyl Cup doubles tournament, was an annual event that have been sponsored and organized by this family. The school bell, that is usually used to collect the Van Zyl grand children around the lunch table, was used to indicate the start and end of each round. The purpose of this informal tournament is not to identify champions, but to bring tennis enthusiasts together and build lasting relationships.
At the end of the day, Wesley Achmad and Musa Khumalo were the winners by collecting the most games in the allocated time.
