5.1 Ordinary Members

Any person over the age of eighteen years may, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee as hereinafter provided, be eligible to apply for membership of Richards Bay Country Club as an ordinary member.

Any such person shall apply to be registered in terms of one of the following categories of ordinary members.

(a) Ordinary Members - Family
- Single
- Student
- Junior / Student
- Senior Citizens
- Country
- Temporary
- Corporate

(b) Honorary Members - Life

(c) Honorary Members - Temporary 

5.1.1 Family Membership

Family membership shall comprise of husband, wife and their bona fide children under the age of eighteen years. The husband and wife shall have all the rights and privileges as would be conferred on ordinary members and their children, those conferred on junior members.

5.1.2 Single Membership

Any person is eligible for membership as a single member.

5.1.3 Student Membership

Full time student, dependant on a parent.
Part time student e.g. while doing an apprenticeship.

5.1.4 Junior Membership

Any person under the age of eighteen years and who is not already a member by virtue of a family membership shall be eligible for membership as a junior member.

Rules on junior and student membership
1. A person, who was previously a junior member by virtue or FAMILY membership, is not required to pay the entrance fee, provided he joins immediately on becoming 18 years of age.

2. A full time student, who was previously a junior member under a FAMILY membership, is not required to pay the entrance fee.

3. A member ceases to be student when:
· he is no longer a full time student or
· he resides outside a 50km radius of Richards Bay on a permanent basis or
· he becomes independent from his/her parents who are members of the Richards Bay Country Club.

4. Part time student e.g. apprenticeships must submit proof of their apprenticeship contracts.

Any exceptions to the above must be approved by the Executive Committee.

5.1.5 Senior Citizen Membership

A person retired from his normal occupation 60 years and over. Proof may be required by the EXCO Committee that such a person qualify. 

5.1.6 Country Membership

Shall be confined to any person eligible as an ordinary member but whose permanent residential address is outside a 50 km radius of the Club.

5.1.7 Temporary Membership

The Executive Committee may, at its sole discretion offer temporary membership to the under-mentioned persons:

(i) Persons resident outside a 50 km radius of the Club for a period not exceeding three months during one calendar year.

(ii) Persons resident inside the fifty km radius of the Club for a period not exceeding one month after which period such person shall make formal application for ordinary membership.

(iii) Members of Clubs with which the Club has entered into a reciprocity membership agreement, provided that such person does not reside within 50 km of the Club.

(iv) Persons whose permanent residence is outside a 50 km radius and who is transferred to Richards Bay to complete a major capital project in the area.

The temporary members mentioned in clause (i), (ii) and (iv) shall pay a subscription as determined by the Executive Committee from time to time, and such subscriptions shall include a premium in lieu of the entrance fee.
Temporary members mentioned in clause (iii) shall produce satisfactory credentials.

5.1.8 Corporate Membership

A group of members not less than 15 who already operate under constitution of voluntary membership to a private Club established for such a corporate.

Such applications will only be considered for a minimum of 15 members who are not already members of RBCC .


5.2 HONORARY MEMBERSHIP.

5.2.1 Honorary Members – Life
Any member of the Club who has conferred some special benefits on the Club or who has rendered outstanding service to the Club shall be eligible as a honoraria life members, provided that he or she is nominated by the Executive Committee and elected as such by a majority of at least-two-thirds of the members present at an Annual General Meeting of the Club. Not more that four such members can be elected in any one calendar year.

5.2.2 Honorary Membership - Temporary

The Executive Committee may from time to time confer honorary membership for such limited time as it may determine upon the following classes of persons:

(a) Any person who merits such distinction by virtue of holding some public office or having conferred any special benefit on the Club.

(b) Any bona fide candidate awaiting final acceptance for membership.

(c) Any person while engaged in any match or a formal competition on the Club’s premises.

(d) The specific by-laws defining the practical interpretation of this clause to be determined by the Executive Committee from time to time. (see ANNEXURE A for existing by-laws)

6. MEMBERSHIP - RIGHTS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS
Temporary members and junior members shall have no right to vote at any meeting of the Club, nor shall they be entitled to take part in the Management of the Club, their rights being restricted solely to the privilege of entering in and upon the premises of the Club and of using the facilities of the Club in accordance with the rules laid down from time to time by the Club or the Executive Committee thereof and they shall not be considered as members for the purpose of rules 12, 16 and 17.

Membership of the Club shall not confer on any member any right, title, interest, claim or demand in or to any of the monies, property or assets of the Club, but shall only confer the right and privileges of entering in and upon the premises of the Club and of using the facilities of the Club in accordance with the rules laid down from time to time by the Club or the Executive Committee thereof.

No profit from the sale of liquor by the Club under any liquor licence which it might hold shall accrue to any member or individual.

The liability of the members of the Club is limited to the payment of any amount owing by them to the Club.

Any member who has not renewed his subscription to the Club within sixty days of due date shall automatically cease to be a member provided that the Executive Committee may at it’s discretion reinstate such member upon payment of subscriptions.

Any member desiring to resign from the Club shall submit a letter of resignation to the Manager, and provided that he has fulfilled all his obligations to the Club, shall be released from membership by the Executive Committee.

A member may be expelled, suspended or otherwise dealt with as hereinafter provided.

7. MEMBERSHIP - ADMISSION

Any person desiring to become an ordinary member of the Club shall complete and sign the written application form prescribed by the Executive Committee and have same signed by two members of the Club, one as proposer and the other as seconder. Such application form shall be posted on the Club Notice Board for at least fourteen days prior to the application being considered by Executive Committee. Any member desiring to oppose the election of such person, as a member of the Club shall submit a written objection to the Manager, which objection shall be treated in confidence by the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee shall at its next meeting after the expiration of the said period of fourteen days consider the application and any objections thereto and shall at its discretion by a majority vote, either accept or reject the application, or defer it for further investigations.

A person whose application has been rejected shall not be eligible to re-apply for membership for a period of at least one year from the date of the rejection of his or her application.

All applications for membership shall be accompanied by the prescribed entrance fee, and the first year’s subscriptions.

The annual fee entitles a person to membership of the Richards Bay Country Club. It does not entitle a person to membership of a particular sport sub section.

A registration fee is payable by each person wishing to join a particular sport sub section.

A pro-rata discount will apply to those persons joining during a year in respect of annual subscription e.g. 6 months remaining 50 % discount. This concession does not apply to entrance fee which is payable in full.

The signing of an application for membership shall be a clear acknowledgement on the part of the member concerned that he or she is bound by the Constitution. Rules, Regulations and By-laws of the Club and the Subsections in force time to time and that he or she accepts the rulings of the Executive Committee in all cases and no member shall be absolved from the effect thereof on the ground that he or she has not received a copy thereof.

8. MEMBERSHIP - GUESTS

Subject to such rules as may be determined by the Executive Committee from time to time, members may bring guests onto Club’s premises provided that:

(a) The member introducing guests shall inscribe their names in the visitor’s book immediately on arrival and shall sign opposite each entry.

(b) No member shall bring anyone onto the Club’s premises who has been rejected, suspended or expelled as a member, or who has been barred by the Executive Committee from entering the Club’s premises.

(c) No member shall introduce the same guest more than once per month during any one calendar year, except with the priory written approval of the Chairman or Club Manager.

(d) Members introducing guests shall be responsible for the conduct of their guests.
