|
RBCC has the most active junior section of all Zululand golf clubs. Currently we have more than 20 junior golfers with official handicaps and many more who are working towards attaining theirs. Eight of our juniors are members of the KZN division of the South African Junior Golf Foundation. Two RBCC juniors have represented KZN at the SA Boys U/18 tournament and one has represented KZN at SA Boys U/12. Two boys are members of the KZN U/18 team playing the Interprovincial Tournament at Humewood in Dec 2010. One of our junior girls has also been chosen for various representative teams. Three boys have also represented Zululand at KZN Country Districts a number of times and also play for Zululand A in the KZN Central League (A division). |

At RBCC we attach particular importance to junior golf because we believe that it plays a crucial role in the future strength of our club. Besides that, golf offers the individual special benefits that few other sports can do. It instills discipline and etiquette and equips a person to interact socially with others whilst participating in a healthy, competitive sport. Golf is played on over 30 000 golf courses in more than 70 countries worldwide. Our approach towards junior golf at RBCC is based on two objectives. Firstly it is our aim to get as many new children (of any age and gender) to play the game. To this end we offer very favourable membership rates, run various competitions during school holidays and a schools' league during school term. Coaching clinics are also held through the Sports Development Trust whilst private tuition can be arranged with our local PGA Professional. The second objective of our junior programme is to identify those with a special aptitude and develop them to their full potential. As soon as a child achieves a certain level and demonstrates commitment we arrange for him/her to join KZN Junior Golf Foundation. We then set out to ensure that this junior golfer participates in appropriate provincial and national tournaments. Exposure to different golf courses, serious tournament conditions and other skilled competitors benefits the child tremendously. This is the usually the first step towards competitive golf and is how all our famous South African golfers started their careers. |
