Dear R.B.C.C. Members and friends,

Captain's Chirp . . . Practice your “green-reading”
This is a skill that cannot be improved. When you practice putting, take some time to read the putt as you would on the course. You’ll become better at picking up subtle breaks that you might have missed before.

The list is on the notice board for your names to be entered. Kindly enter your name now, so that we can work towards taking a great team along.

Better Ball Matchplay :-
The better ball Matchplay has produced a pair of winners. Congratulations to both Danie Bosman and Lindsay Smith for hanging in there and emerging as ultimate winners. Their prize giving will be held tonight, Wednesday, at the club. See you there.

Sanlam Cancer Challenge :-
The following golfers (in bold only) will be representing the RBCC at the two venues on 15th August (that’s this Sunday). Kindly ensure that you are available to play, as a non attendance reflects not only on yourself, but also on the Club. If you cannot make it, the names in brackets will replace you.

A-Division: John Smith (Ray Boshoff then Clyde Watson)
B-Division: Wim Watson (Louie Roux (Jnr) then Andre Spies)
C-Division: LOOKING FOR THE 4th PLACE GOLFER – any suggestions

Ladies Division – 15 August 2010 at Maritzburg Golf Club
A-Division: Twiggy v.d. Merwe (Ursula Howarth then Marie Terblanche)
B-Division: Kathy De Gasperi (Nicole Gillespie)
C-Division: Julie Oldenburg

Hippo :-
Rose van der Merwe had a narrow escape last Tuesday, when on her way home after having supper at the restaurant, driving along the road nex to the second hole, at about 10h00, a HIPPO, feeling boxed in, ran into the side of her bakkie. Fortunately Rose and Lynette van der Linde were not harmed, although reasonably shaken by the event. This is a serious concern and golfers, home owners and visitors need to heed the warning regarding hippo’s – they are dangerous and cannot be treated lightly, especially after sunset. BE WARNED!!!!!!!!

Crocodile :-
Concern has been raised about the croc on the 18th. More and more kids are enjoying the club facilities and we certainly don’t need an incident. Any suggestions in this regard? Should he be removed?

Doug Morris Farewell :-

Doug Morris . Dough (as can be seen on his shirt), has taken a position down in Cape Town, almost with immediate effect. Doug will be well remembered for his many years at the club and for his input on the various committees. In recent times, Doug will be more remembered as a “ballerina” and a new title as a fairy (are those wings attached???). In his last game at the club on Saturday, he organised a friendly “Pro V” challenge with his mates, which was enjoyed by those participating. Maybe his Cape Town mates in Neil and Dean, one of them will hold his ankles when on the tee box...... Doug, we wish you all the best in your new adventure and trust that you don’t forget your mates back in the Bay.

Debit Order System For RBCC :-
Richards Bay Country Club is proud to announce a new Debit Order system that will be available for membership from September 2010.
This step forward will allow members the convenience of monthly payments, alleviating the lump sum payment. Great idea – a circular in the near future will inform you more about this.

From the R.B.C.C. Rule Book :-

Loose Impediments (Rule 23)
You may move a loose impediment (i.e. natural loose objects such as stones, detached leaves and twigs) unless the loose impediment and your ball are in the same hazard. If you remove a loose impediment and this causes your ball to move, the ball must be replaced and (unless your ball was on the putting green) you incur a one-stroke penalty. (Rule 23-1)
Movable Obstructions (Rule 24-1)
Movable obstructions (i.e. artificial movable objects such as rakes, tin cans, etc.) located anywhere may be moved without penalty. If the ball moves as a result, it must be replaced without penalty. If a ball is on a movable obstruction, the ball may be lifted, the obstruction removed and the ball dropped, without penalty, on the spot directly under where the ball lay on the obstruction, except that on the putting green, the ball is placed on that spot.

Thank you. . .
My sincere thanks to our members, businesses and friends, who have showed their generosity to our club and to all sponsors who continue to support the RBCC – thank you.

Trusting you have a sporting week.

Kind regards
